About The Grand Circle 
How Cedar City became the gateway to Southern Utah’s scenic wonders
Before modern road trips made the national parks feel close, Cedar City became the rail gateway to a remarkable Southern Utah travel circuit. In the 1920s and 1930s, Union Pacific Railroad and the Utah Parks Company built a connected system of lodges, bus shuttles, and guided loop tours that carried visitors from the train depot into Zion, Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, and the surrounding canyon country.
The Grand Circle revisits that era: the ambition, hospitality, and human stories behind opening the West’s parks to travelers from across the country. What began as transportation and tourism infrastructure became part of the cultural foundation for the modern national park experience.
